Christmas eve day, and it began with a rush of excitement for us. It is so sad that many in America and around the world really have no idea what the celebration is all about. Their rushing about seems to be all about buying presents and attending parties, all of which can be nice but, they are not the reason we celebrate.
Statistics tells us that suicides are at their highest frequency during this season. There are no doubt many reasons; hopelessness when such hope is being celebrated, loneliness when the season most celebrates care for one another and family, despair over failures that seem to overwhelm one, and most of all, all out demonic attack.
I want to declare the reason for this season is the birth of Jesus, the Christ. While He probably wasn’t born on this day (He was probably conceived on this day and born during the Feast of Tabernacles), there is nothing wrong with celebrating His birth on any day!
There is no hope in the world, in money, or in politics because they are all destined to be judged by God. There is only hope in Jesus, the One who came to save us from our sin. It does not matter how rich or successful you are, how beautiful, what your race is, or how accepted you are in society. He accepts all who call on His name for forgiveness and salvation. With Him in your life you can become all you were destined to be – and that is the true reason we celebrate Christmas.
And we also can celebrate because He is coming back again!
“so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” – Hebrews 9:28
