Threading the Needle

12-30-2014-kerry-saudi_pm2015 is starting with news going in every direction. One headline asks Did The Saudis And The US Collude In Dropping Oil Prices? It points out that current struggles between Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Russia and the United States all play a part in the gamesmanship over the struggle for control of the Middle East and oil and natural gas are part of the equation. A Sept. 11 meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Saudi King Abdullah shortly before the price drops in oil seem to indicate this scenario. What is not clear is how Putin of Russia will respond.

In another direction, United States citizens just lost another round in the struggle for freedom as the 4th Amendment is further weakened by Congress’ passage of the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2015 which grants the executive branch virtually unlimited access to the communications of every American. It is usually argued that this helps us fight terrorism, but instead of taking away our freedoms how about stopping this administration from employing Muslims foxes in the henhousewith terrorist ties in sensitive jobs in government, such as Homeland Security! Ending support of terrorist groups like ISIS might also be a start. It is reported that much of the aid we sent to Syria freedom fighters ended up in ISIS hands.

The news media, “drive-by media” as Rush calls them, has us focusing on so-called hate crimes of police against innocent black kids, which we later find out were just mini-gangsters in the making, while seldom if ever mentioning black-on-white crimes taking place every day on our streets. And then after all this media slight-of-hand we find out that while our attention was being riveted on these show-boat items, real actions that affect our national security or freedoms were taking place behind closed doors by our government; such as amnesty for illegals or giving them social security benefits and medicare benefits that many of our citizens can’t qualify for!

worn BibleIf we are to be prepared for the events that are coming, we need to focus on things that are really important, such as watching for the signs Jesus said would precede the end of the age and His return. Instead of focusing on what the world wants us to give attention to, we need to focus on the “eye of the needle” and we need the help of the Holy Spirit to do this, not the blind eyes of the media.

“And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” – Matthew 19:24

A good start would be a reverent appreciation of the truths found only in the Bible and restoring the freedom to share them publicly in our schools, government and places of business. If this offends anyone, then they need these truths all the more because these truths alone won us the freedom to leave if we don’t like the benefits these truths are responsible for.

Have a good day and don’t be sidetracked by all the news media is worried about. God has it all in control.
