Jesus gave very sound advice about living which many in our country seem to have forgotten.
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:26
As Americans are caught up in the election circus it would do us all good to remember this advice, especially in a selecting a leader that will control much of our everyday lives.
The Democrat front runner has made millions by selling government influence to wall street profiteers and by questionable money schemes. The Republican front runner freely admits he is willing to stoop to any level to gain a buck – ‘playing the system’ he calls it. He screams about the ‘rigged’ political system when he loses but is perfectly comfortable with a financial rigged system that favors him. It is not surprising to realize there are leaders who would stoop to acting this way but, it very upsetting to see the large numbers of people who seem to support it, or at least are willing to overlook it! Some, like Joe the Plumber, even go so far as to praise them for their success in bilking the public.
But, what must sadden God’s heart is to see the many so-called Christians who can support such leaders, even though actions such as divorce, abortion, lying, stealing, pride, etc. will keep them out of heaven, and that includes those who support them.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Galatians 5:19-21
Now as a Christian you may say “I don’t do these things!”, but, if you knowing vote for those who do, you are guilty of them as well. The judgments of God have already started falling on this land and warnings of more to come abound. Only the blind could miss it. We are in the condition Isaiah prophesied about –
“Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. So truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no justice.” – Isaiah 59:14,15
It is not too late to change course if we repent and seek God’s plan for our lives and country. Vote for those who live according to God’s principles, not just talk about them when it is expedient! If all the Christians would demand righteous leaders and choose to lead righteous lives themselves, then perhaps God will deliver us from the judgments that are coming. I suggest we return to a true two-party system – Righteous and non-Righteous. Because that is all there will be in the end!
