“While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” – Hebrews 3:15
Procrastination is a tool of the devil to keep us from fulfilling our call from God. C. S. Lewis, in his book Screwtape Letters, describes how demons attempt to keep a believer from following God by getting him to procrastinate what should be done today until tomorrow, fully knowing that tomorrow’s obedience will very likely never come. This is why the writer of Hebrews correctly identifies today as the time to obey God.
In the following graph a straight line with arrows at each end represents eternity which is where God exists. The curved line represents yours and mine lives. To the left is the past and to the right is the future. It is only in the middle, which represents the present, that our live can touch eternity. It is so easy to live in the past or in the future and just exist in the present but this will not accomplish the will of God in our lives.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10
It is good to remember the past but only as it encourages us to live today. God has created us for good works, that’s the past, but, we can only walk in them in the here and now! Scripture declares, “The Holy Spirit is given to those who obey Him” but, you can only obey in the present.
The future is good as well. Prophesy is given by God for our benefit as long as we use it to prepare in the present. Both Old and New Testaments illustrate how God works with us in the here and now. Jesus taught us to only worry about today. The New Testament declares “today is the day of salvation”.
Scriptures reveal the main activity of man that will bring the presence of the Lord is true worship. This is a simple but important concept that we need to comprehend because it is the secret to entering the presence of the Lord. So, I have enclosed the audio version of a message I gave on this subject in the year 2000. I hope it is a blessing to you and encourages you meet anew with our God and Savior, Jesus.
Pass it on if it is a blessing to you.
