The United States is locked in political combat, mostly between Democrats and Republicans. Even though only a relatively small number of Americans are actively involved in the infighting, all will bear the consequences of the battle. It is somewhat like a mini-Civil War dividing even families. For the most part, the muskets and cannons are missing, but damage is still being done. And as it was during the Civil War, Christians are being drawn in on both sides. I believe the same events are happening all over the world. How can this happen?
In some areas of the world the main cause is religion. In some areas the cause is political; socialism, nationalism, progressive vs conservative, or even racial unrest. The hidden motive behind all of these is control. A few powerful people use abundant money resources to influence groups into actions that will benefit their power base. An example is the group Black Lives Matter being funded and manipulated by George Soros for his purposes. Does he really care about Black people? No, but he does care about unrest and chaos they bring because it gives him influence to achieve his goals. There are many power-brokers like him on both conservative and liberal-progressive sides. They have been there down through history and will continue to be there until the Lord comes back and settles it all. I do not believe we can stop this but, we can choose to not be fooled by it into giving our support.
I hear many accusations flying around: “If you don’t support Donald Trump, you are giving the election to Hillary Clinton!” Or, “if you support Trump you are destroying the United States!” Or, if you don’t vote, you are not a patriot!” Well, I reject all these idiotic statements! I am a Christian and this is what my faith tells me concerning real political power –
“Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed,saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion.” … Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth. … Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” – Psalm 2:1-12
The heart of the king is in God’s hand and He sets up one and takes down another according to His will. If God sets up a nation and it obeys His voice then He blesses it but, if it turns away from Him and disregards His voice, He removes that blessing and it cannot succeed. Our founding fathers understood this and feared God.
“And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.”. – Jeremiah 18:9,10
Furthermore, my Bible tells me that my citizenship is in heaven and I am responsible to follow its dictates above all others. I am called a ‘pilgrim‘ on this earth.
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,” – Ephesians 2:19
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” – Philippians 3:20
“Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,” – 1 Peter 2:11
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” – Hebrews 11:13
I am proud to be an American citizen but, as a citizen of heaven I do not have to accept any godless or corrupt politician that comes along to vote for! I am only responsible to vote my conscience and that is dictated by the Holy Spirit’s voice, not that of any political party. If these political parties cannot find even one righteous person to run for office then they do not deserve my vote.
The outcome of this election or even this country will not depend on my vote. It will depend on whether or not it turns back to God and His principles!
