Why is the American church seemingly so powerless against the atheistic worldview sweeping the land? The Bible declares that light overcomes darkness and “Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.” (Prov. 14:34). So why isn’t the church overcoming the darkness? Perhaps it isn’t the church at all? Jesus said –

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” – Matt. 5:14-20

As Islam steadily makes inroads on American culture the church is largely silent. Senators like Marco Rubio sponsor anti blasphemy laws that make it a crime to tell the truth about Islam and Islamic terrorism. Our government continues supporting Palestinian terrorism with millions of dollars, even though they continue paying the families of those who commit terrorist attacks. They run youth camps for their children teaching them to kill Israelis and Americans. Meanwhile, we have a Trump administration and a Republican Congress who continue fund them! While he promised to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem in his campaign, he has not done it yet. In fact, he went along with the Republican establishment and signed a bill postponing it for another 6 months! Trump has also turned Syria over to Russia and Iran turning a deaf ear to Israel’s complaints about Hezbollah and Iranian troops being on their northern borders now. 

As Russia moves troops and armaments into place in Syria preparing for the Gog Magog war of Ezekiel, the United States makes it clear that Israel is on their own, contrary to Trump’s boasts. I am not surprised at a government that sold out to homosexuals, anti marriage and transgender proponents or even Israel but, WHERE IS THE CHURCH? Why isn’t the church sounding the alarm from every pulpit?

Go back and study our early history and you will find that the historic American church was very political in its sermons. They believed they were responsible to be light and salt to the society – and that included the government! Today the church has become ‘Progressive’ and feels it can reinterpret what the Bible had to say about issues that are controversial. They say, “a loving God wouldn’t condemn homosexuals” or “who are you to judge?” They want to be all inclusive and don’t want to preach about morals. As one Hillsong pastor declared, ‘we just want to preach about love.’

I do not judge, I merely repeat what Jesus said. There is only one group of people that will be kept from the great tribulation that is coming soon on the earth and they are in the church of Philadelphia –

“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.” – Rev. 3:10

You might wonder, what did they do to deserve this promise? It was not because they were a big ministry – they were small. It was not because they were rich – they were poor. This is what they did –

“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” – Rev. 3:8

They weren’t big or strong but, they persevered and kept the Lord’s word and they did not deny His name. The importance of His name is that it embodies who He is! And remember, He said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” That includes the Old Testament as well as the New! He makes a promise to those who overcome (keep His word and persevere)-

“He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” – Rev. 21:7,8

God is the embodiment of love but, He is going to judge us by our works and His word. Most of the church today is not going to meet this standard. WE NEED TO REPENT!

Another truth is, the church has not replaced Israel. In fact the true church is going to be joined with believing Israel, who will be ‘saved as in one day’ as Paul wrote. As they go through the war with Gog and through the Bozrah deliverance, they will turn to their Messiah, Jesus. Jesus died on the cross to break down the middle wall separating Jew and Gentile and make one new man – a new church, which will be His bride. The church ought to be learning about the Feasts of the Lord, not in a legalistic way, but what their meaning is. They are the ways God met, and will meet, with His people. But, most of the church is ignorant of them, or too proud to acknowledge them. You cannot be the Church of Jesus if you are for dividing the land of Israel, for it does not belong to them or to us – it belongs to God,  He calls it My land.

“I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land.” – Joel 3:2

 If your church is for dividing Israel to make a home for Palestinians, you are choosing against God – I advise you to reconsider your membership in such a church.

The truth is, we are coming into times where God will divide what is called the Christian church into the sheep and the goats and I suspect there are presently more goats than sheep. It is time for all of us to examine where we really stand with God. Can we honestly pray “Thy will be done on earth and in heaven” or are we making life’s choices based on our will?

Recent signs in heaven and on earth warn us to prepare, and the first place to start is our own relationship with the Lord. Don’t just trust your church doctrines. Remember, one day you will stand before God and only you will be responsible for your works – not your pastor. Get into the Word of God and see what He says – then obey it.
