“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” – Matt. 24:10-14
In His teaching about the end times, Jesus warned us to beware of false prophets and teachers, which will abound near the end. They will abound because of the lawlessness that will fill men’s hearts causing the love of God to grow cold. ‘lawlessness’ refers to the rejection of God’s laws by men; rejection of the 10 Commandments, rejection of God’s laws concerning marriage, even denying God’s creation of gender – man and woman. Most of all the rejection of God’s redemption for mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ. The following headline highlights this –
Megachurch Minister Claims It’s ‘Insanity’ to Believe Men Will Go to Hell for Rejecting Christ
The pastor of this 10,000 member Baptist Church said “There was a time when you would see people in the pulpit say, ‘Well, if you don’t believe in Jesus, [you’re] going to Hell.’ That’s insanity in many ways because that is not what Jesus even believes,” Walrond asserted, generating a smattering of applause. “And so, the key is you believe in God. And whatever your path is to God, I celebrate that. Personally, I celebrate that…” I guess he’s forgotten the very words of Jesus, who said “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – Jn. 14:6. There are many ministers today who stand in the pulpit and twist the words of God and make the Gospel of the Kingdom into a ‘bless me club’ rather than a call to take up our cross, and to forsake this world for the sake of a heavenly kingdom to come. As Peter wrote so long ago –
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.” – 2 Pet. 2:1
I urge you not to be one-day a week Christians. Rather let the word of God be your guiding star each day. Do not forsake the meeting together with other Christians but, do not think that fulfills your obligation to God. You want God’s blessing in your life every day so, let God into your life every day – read His word and then obey it. Take the words of Paul to the Philippians to heart –
“Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.” – Phil. 3:17-21
The Christian is called to a life of holiness and righteousness. We are to be ‘set apart’ from worldly influences. We are to be ‘in the world’ but not ‘of the world’. Now, I know we also often fail in this calling but, that is why we must live a life of repentance, one that sets his gaze on heaven, where our true citizenship is.
