The Importance of Family

In 2016 I wrote an article named Return to the Family in which I highlighted the importance of family. At that time we were in the throws of a Presidential election and the news media was going wild with speculations and propaganda. Even though the election was won by Donald Trump, it seems as if the battle for our mind is continuing by the so-called news media. In that article I wrote –

“As the upcoming Presidential election draws near, many voices are flooding the airways proclaiming their perceived answers to our problems, each trying to drown out the other. The noise is so disharmonious as to cause a normal person to click the off switch, especially when one understands they are speaking lies and half-truths for the most part and that most of the “news media” does not disseminate news at all, but just the propaganda they have sold out to!”

blood-moon-tetrad-2014-2015That election was preceded by the heavenly display of four blood red moons occurring on the Feast Days of Passover and Tabernacles and ushered in the Jubilee Year in 2016-2017 which I believe highlighted the only messages worth listening to, which was return to God while there is time! The messages are clear for those with eyes to see and ears to listen and I will list some of them –

  1. Almighty God is the Creator; there is none other! He placed these signs in the heavens in the beginning and intended them to be signs for us: “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:” – Genesis 1:14. God had a plan for mankind from the beginning and it has not changed or varied. Even the heavenly web pictures 143Constellations display this plan. His plan was for His only begotten Son, the Lamb of God, to be slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8) to pay the debt we owe because of sin (“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23). This is why the first blood moons of 2014 and 2015 occurred on Passover and reminds us there is only one way to escape the judgment that is coming.
  2. God created the family because it is of vital importance to mankind. It is the foundation of every endeavor of man. A key element of the Jubilee –

“It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. Leviticus 25:9, 10.

The crowning act of Creation was to bring Eve to Adamhow far we've come

and they became one flesh. God even gives us His reason for doing this – “And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.” – Malachi 2:15. Only a man and a woman can bring forth seed (a new life) and then raise it up to love and follow God. How do we do this? We do it by loving and following God ourselves. Whatever a child sees the parents do, he or she does. If we do this, God promises that “when he or she is old they will not depart from the faith” – Proverbs 22:6. But you may say, “I fail so often, I cannot do it!”, but God has an answer: He has given us a “residue of the Spirit” to help us if we turn to Him for help. God knows there are no perfect parents – only those who try, and love, and the children intuitively know it too! The Devil uses every trick and deception he can to weaken and destroy the family because he knows it is the foundation of society and more importantly that it is the foundation of the Church. That is why God declares “I hate divorce!” – Malachi 2:16. He does not hate the people who have fallen to divorce but He hates the concept and practice of divorce because He knows it gives the Devil a victory over God’s plans. Thankfully a measure of restoration can come through repentance and turning back to God.

One of the last events to occur just before the Lord’s return is the coming of Elijah.

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” – Mal. 4:5,6

And what does he do – he restores the family! A key preparation for the coming of the Lord is the restoration of the family. Mom and Dad loving God and honoring God’s word in their home. Fathers teaching their children God’s precepts and modeling the love that comes from God. And remembering the disciplining of the Lord for there is no love without discipline. When my wife and I had our children, we took them with to prayer meetings and to church services we attended. Many were the times that they went to sleep under the chairs when the services went long. But, they learned and absorbed the atmosphere of God moving. So as they grew, it was natural for them to give their lives to Christ and serve Him. Jesus said “suffer the little children to come unto Me and forbid them not” and we did just that. And that includes the grand-children as well for the Word says –

“Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren,” – Deut. 4:9

Some of our grand-children

Parents, if God blesses you with grand-children, you are responsible to teach them about God as well. I know this is hard in our modern life style as families are spread apart because of living or work but, there are still ways to do it – such as prayer. You can make your family gatherings, no matter how infrequent they are, into God centered events where the love of God is shown. You can show them that you are for them just as God is for them. You can show them you are interested in them just as God is interested in them. If you try – God will help.
