The Truth will Set You Free

web pictures 166Truth is a precious commodity and much of our lives depend upon it; justice, righteousness, and equity to name a few. Jesus even taught that our very freedom depended upon it.

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:31,32

He also prayed for His disciples –

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” – John 17:17

The word ‘sanctify’ means ‘to set apart‘. That means they would be different than other people. That is why our Founding Fathers, who were believers in the Bible, set such a high priority on free speech, making it the first Amendment to the Constitution. It’s one of the things that sets our country apart from most others in the world , certainly socialistic and communistic countries. It is why we have such a free Press. But, what is it that gives us this advantage? The Truth!

So, what happens when our government or our Press purposely doesn’t tell the truth? Our freedom is directly threatened. It is as Isaiah prophesied –

“Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity (honesty) cannot enter. So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.” – Isa. 59:14,15

Our past President Obama secretly collaborated with George Soros and the UN to bring thousands of radical Muslims into Europe and the United States to foster their policy of globalization. But I thought Obama took an oath to defend the United States not some One World government? Or our own CIA paying $600 Million to the Washington Post to publish Trump Disinformation. Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon, also owns the Washington Post. The Washington Post is the most widely known and respected news outlet in the world, reaching more people than any other publication including the NY Times. It has always been the standard in which journalistic ethics are established and adhered to by other publications. It sets the example to be followed by the everyday journalists out there on the beat trying to do their jobs. But now, we find them directly caught up in fake news all in an attempt to discredit President Trump. What does this do for the truth?

Or what about the rush of Democrat politicians to blame President Trump for separating illegal children from their parents at the southern border when it was those same politicians that voted in the laws that are responsible and the former Democrat President that enacted them.

The Church, which is supposed to be the chief guardian of the truth, has also fallen from its ‘sanctified’ position. From TV preachers raking in thousands of dollars to churches ordaining women and LBGT pastors, which the Bible is against, to the Pope collaborating with Communist China in appointing Bishops.

Of course all truth is important whether it is economical, political, or spiritual in nature. But, of prime importance is spiritual truth because it will determine the final outcome of one’s life. Jesus said the truth of His words would set us free, truly free. Paul wrote that the truth would protect us from the influence of the Antichrist –

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” – 2 Thes. 2:9-12

The truth is not always pleasant, it sometimes disturbs us but it always purifies us as gold tried in the fire. It is the counsel Jesus gave to the Laodicean Church in Revelation –

“So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.” – Rev. 3:14-19
