Jesus predicted in the last days we would see ‘great earthquakes’ in various places (Luke 21:11) . Great earthquakes are described as those of magnitude 8.0 and above. NBC News reported –
“The annual number of “great” earthquakes nearly tripled over the last decade, providing a reminder to Americans that unruptured faults like those in the northwest United States might be due for a Big One.
Between 2004 and 2014, 18 earthquakes with magnitudes of 8.0 or more rattled subduction zones around the globe. That’s an increase of 265 percent over the average rate of the previous century, which saw 71 great quakes, according to a report to the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America this week in Vancouver, British Columbia.” – Science News, NBC News
Jesus also predicted there would be famines and pestilences. David Beasley of the World Food Programme recently wrote –
“The world is facing widespread famine “of biblical proportions” because of the coronavirus pandemic, the chief of the UN’s food relief agency has warned, with a short time to act before hundreds of millions starve.
More than 30 countries in the developing world could experience widespread famine, and in 10 of those countries there are already more than 1 million people on the brink of starvation, said David Beasley, executive director of the World Food Programme.”
Is this the opening of the third seal of Revelation? Many have taught that this black horse represents famine. A penny, or denarion in Greek, represented a days wages just for a quart of wheat or 3 measures of barley. This horse was commanded not to hurt the oil and the wine, which were the foods of the rich. So, this verse is pointing out the poor countries of the world, just as the World Food Programme points out.
“And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny (dēnarion), and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.” – Rev. 6:5, 6
Even in the United States we are beginning to see the effects of the Covid19 virus as the price of meat and other foods is rising sharply. Imagine what it is like in poorer developing nations.
These are just a few of the signs Jesus said would accompany the end days. He also said it would be like the days of Noah and Lot –
“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.” – Luke 17:26-29
The people of Noah’s day had warning from Noah, he preached to them for 120 years and the people of Sodom had warning, Lot pleaded with them. But, they chose to continue living as they always had; eating, drinking, building, marrying, as if everything was OK and would continue as it had. They weren’t watching the signs and they weren’t listening to God, though He was speaking to them. And then, it was too late! They perished.
Ever since the year 2000, and before, God has been speaking through heavenly signs, signs of judgement in the earth, wickedness among men, and through His prophets. But most are too busy with living their lives to listen. Wake up and listen before the heavenly trumpet sounds one last time, and it will be too late.
