The Return of Elijah

then and nowThis blog is dedicated to the prophetic words of the Bible and God’s servants, the prophets, both ancient and modern. And there is one prophetic word that has always been dear to me, it is the prophesy about the coming of Elijah before the coming of the Lord.

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” – Mal. 4:5, 6

A key part of his ministry will be to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. I remember so well the advise a dear minister friend of mine gave me concerning this. I was a teacher, both secular and of the word of God and my family and I had attended a Family Ministry named Zion Harbor. I was so impressed that I was ready to quit my job, sell my house, and join the ministry. Rev. Bill Lemke was a head preacher there at that time so, I went to him with my offer. After prayer, he told me to stay home and take care of my family; my wife and I had eight children. God later told me that if I raised my family to love Him, I would have done more than 80% of the missionaries of all time. I obeyed and I have been so glad for Bill’s advice and for the word of the Lord to me.

When I think of all the great ministries Elijah could have in preparing the people for the coming of the Lord – how amazing that it is to heal families and make them strong in the Lord. Then I remembered how God moved in the Old Testament – through families! He called  Abraham ad made him a family. The same with Isaac. The same with Jacob and from his eight children God made a nation. He promised Abraham –

“And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;” – Gen. 26:4

And it was so – Jacob became Israel and out of the nation of Israel, Jesus was born and became a blessing to all nations.

How wonderful is a family. It was to the family of Zacharias and Elisabeth that John the Baptist was born, and Scriptures say of him –

“He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” – Luke 1:17

We need more men to go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah. The enemy has tried to destroy the family by stealing from men their heritage, a heritage of preparing their children to meet the Lord. The politicians have been his tools by doling out welfare and government assistance to replace the father. The bars and drug lords have also done their part to blind the men to their true calling with alcoholism and addiction. Hollywood also has done its part by glorifying immoral sex and adultery. And yes, the churches also have done their part by failing to teach men their responsibilities and condoning divorce.

God has called you men to be the carriers of seed (sperm) from which He can bring forth new life. And you will never know greater fulfillment in life than to care for your children, teaching them the ways of the Lord. You also will never know more of the joy of the Lord than when you see your children walking with the Lord and arguing with their enemies in the gates of the Lord.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” – Ps. 127:3-5

As I witness the abundant signs of the Lord’s return, I long to see the Elijahs of the day come forth; to see the love and care only a father can give to his family and to see the honor and respect of the children for their fathers, honor and respect which only comes from love that has been experienced.

If you are a father reading this, God bless you in your God-given ministry to your family.
