Growth by the Word of God

parable-of-the-sower 2Jesus told many parables about sowing and reaping and He likened the word of God to seed that was sown in men’s hearts. In the parable of the Sower, He likened various men’s hearts to those deceived by Satan, those who will surrender to tribulation, those weighed down with the cares of this world, and those who will accept the word. Then there was this parable –

And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” – Mark 4:26-29

This parable is about those men who were the ‘good ground’ in the parable of the Sower. They receive the word of God in their hearts and it immediately begins to work and produce growth. Notice these men go through various stages of growth, the blade, then the head, then the ‘full grain in the head’. They receive the rain showers and they endure the heat of the sun until the harvest. They resist the blight, the worms, and the insects that attack them and yet produce grain. And where do they get the strength for this endurance? From the word in them. Remember, Adam was made from the earth? And God commanded the earth to reproduce any seed that is planted in it. And so, as mankind receives the word, it automatically begins growing.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” – Gen. 1:11, 12

This is no “sloppy agape” or “greasy grace” message. You must receive the rain of the Holy Spirit and endure the ‘heat of the Sun’ (God’s testing’s) and resist the devil’s attacks, enduring to the end of the harvest. But, the message of this parable is — you have something within you, something created from the beginning, that will help you overcome and produce fruit — if you obey the word!

How sad it is to read of American Christians that only 18.7% attend church regularly, especially since the church is the one place that is supposed to give special attention the God’s word. For the first time since the late 1930s, fewer than half of Americans say they belong to a church, synagogue or mosque, according to a new report from Gallup. No wonder that our population is given over to a Woke generation hell-bent on Socialism and Communism. They have seen nothing in the so-called church that excites them or puts the Fear of God in them.

This is a church leadership failure. It’s leaders would rather receive money from the government than speak the truth about masks and vaccines (which are not true vaccines). It’s leaders will not speak out against politicians who promote un-Godly agendas and still call themselves Christians – such as Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, who call themselves Catholics but promote the murder of innocent babies! And I could include many Republicans in this list as well. It’s leaders will not speak out against homosexuals and gay-pride agendas even though God clearly condemns it in His word! They are more afraid of these groups and legal attacks than they are of God!

The Lord had a word for the false shepherds in Jeremiah’s day that illustrates how He feels about the milk-toast pastors of today’s church –

“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the LORD. “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. “I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD. – Jer. 23:1-4

When pastors don’t teach the fulness of the word and water it down, when they fail to proclaim the truth found in the word and honor those who deserve no honor, they are destroying and scattering the sheep of God’s pasture. They are not only not proclaiming the kingdom of God but they are standing in the doorway and blocking their flock from entering it!

God is separating the wheat from the tares right now and the wheat are going to receive a message of truth, holiness, and the fear of the Lord to prepare them for the final harvest. All the others are going to miss the kingdom of God.

All of us need to repent and press in to the holiness of God. As Paul taught, we need to gird our waist with truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, shod our feet with the gospel and take up the shield of faith taking the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. It is the only way to mature in Christ.

This nation, indeed this world, only has one hope of deliverance from the decline we are in and that is to turn to the word of God. It alone is the truth that will set us free.
