Taking the Land for God

The LORD told Joshua as he was about to enter the Promised Land to be strong and of good courage. Joshua would need it as they were about to enter a land of giants which the spies had earlier reported –

“And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” – Numbers 13:32-33

And the people were gripped with fear, which led to another 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. Now, we in America, indeed in most of the world, are gripped with a spirit of fear of a so called pandemic and we need to listen to the word of the LORD – “Be strong and of good courage”! We indeed are facing giants but they are giants of Satan’s making as the following video shows –

I remember a time early on in my Christian life when facing bad times that I complained to God, wanting to give up and this is what He said to me –

“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?” – Jer. 12:5

In other words, “I never promised you it would be easy, put on My strength and get going!” That is the message we Christians need to hear right now. Yes we face some strong giants (Critical Race Theory, Communism, failed media, government swamps, and even weak kneed churches) but our God is stronger than all of them! The Holy Spirit  that is in us is greater than the spirit of Lawlessness that is in the world!

I’m so thankful for God and His word. He will never fail us or lead us astray but the voices of the enemy always will. One of the tricks of the enemy is giving us false expectations but, remember God is not about fulfilling our expectations but His own expectations. He will fulfill His word to the last jot and title. and He will fulfill our words if they line up with His word as well.

All of our Founding Fathers, both Pilgrims and Puritans, agree that they made Covenant with God and He with them. The Mayflower compacts begins –

 “Having undertaken for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith and Honour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the First Colony in the Northern Parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one of another, Covenant and Combine ourselves together in a Civil Body Politic

Even our Declaration of Independence declares

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed . . .”

Our forefathers made covenant with God and this is what God says about His covenants –

“He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,” – Psalm 105:8

Even though men may fail in keeping that covenant, God will not. He had to send Israel into captivity in Babylon for 70 years but, He remembered His covenant with them and brought them out. So, I believe God will remember His covenant with America if we repent and turn back to Him and return to our covenant with Him, to  “Remember the Glory of God and work for the advancement of the Christian Faith”. Remember our Declaration of Independence declares – “they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” and Psalm 139 declares what those rights are –

“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.” – Ps. 139:16

God knew His plans for us before we were born and they were written down in heaven. It is no accident that we were born in America to continue the Covenant God made with our forefathers. We were born “for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith”. No less than Joshua was born to lead the people across the Jordan River so, we were born to claim this land for the Lord God Almighty!

So, rise up, shake off the fear and get moving!
