The prophet Joel prophesied –
“And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.” – Joel 2:30-32
Peter used this prophesy to support the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost –
“The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.” – Acts 2:20
Many other Scriptures also link the coming of the Lord Jesus with Blood Red Moons and this last decade had an abundance of Blood Red Moons: the blood moons of 2011 and 2013, the Blood Red Moon Tetrad of 2014 and 2015, the super blue blood moon of 2018, and the super blood wolf moon Jan. 21, 2019. And finally a Super Blood Red Moon appeared on May 26, 2021.
The Jewish Talmud has this to say about blood Red Moons – “When the moon is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for Israel. If its face is as red as blood, (it is a sign that) the sword is coming to the world.” Therefore: Lunar Eclipse = bad omen for the Jewish people and Israel; Blood Moon = sword coming; Solar Eclipse = bad omen for the world. History has certainly proven this statement to be true.
In light of all the Blood Red Moons that have been happening in recent times, it might be the Lord is speaking to His people to prepare for Jesus’ second coming! Perhaps the most significant appearance of blood red moons appeared in 2014 and 2015. It is known as a Blood Red Moon Tetrad, because exactly four consecutive blood red moons appeared on Jewish Feast days of Passover and Tabernacles, which is very rare. In fact it was only the eighth time to happen since Jesus was hanging on the cross.
The meaning of the number “Eight” in the Bible is “New Beginnings”… The eighth day was new after God rested. There are 7 days in a week and the 8th day is a new beginning. Christ rose on the 8th day which was a new beginning for the world. The fact that the Feast days of Passover and Tabernacles were used is also significant: Passover marked the first coming of Jesus and Tabernacles will mark the second coming of Jesus.
If you care to look up what the other appearances of the Blood Red Moon Tetrad, you can look in an article named The coming Blood Moons. One occurred as the Jews were being expelled from Spain, one occurred in 1948 and 1949 as Israel was becoming a nation and fighting for it’s existence, and one occurred in 1967-1968 as Israel was fighting the 6-day war in which it regained Jerusalem. Blood Red Moons do foretell war for Israel but notice that these 4 Blood Red Moons also contain two solar eclipses which mean trouble for the nations of the world as well and since 2014 the world has certainly had troubles, from earthquakes and volcanos, to floods and tsunamis, from famines to financial collapses.
Now these Blood Red Moons also have a strong message for the church as well. They are saying “wake up” for the day is far spent! Jesus is saying to some, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”, and to others He is saying, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
Remember the prophesy of Joel that I began this article with? “For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.” There are only going to be a remnant that will be ready for His coming. Only a remnant took the signs that He has been showing in the heavens seriously enough to prepare.
I myself also have to repent because I have not been taking them seriously enough either. Our little church meets three times during the week but, that is not enough. Scripture says –
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Heb. 10:24
After the Holy Spirit fell on the first Church, Scripture declares “they continued to meet daily”. Oh that I might once again experience that Holy Spirit’s spark that would spur me to meet daily in the church and from house to house spreading the joy of the Lord. I pray the same for you as well.
