Look Up

As Jesus was telling His disciples about the signs that would precede His second coming, He said “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28). Have you ever given much thought to the meaning of “look up”? What do you see when you look up? The stars!

I know that most Christians do not pay attention to the creation, let alone the stars in the sky or give any thought to their meaning, but the Bible declares that they are messages sent from God to mankind and they contain keys to our future. So, I want to refresh one miniscule part of the stars in the sky – the Constellation Orion.

On the fourth day of Creation God created stars in the heaven –

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.” – Genesis 1:14-15

In the Book of Job God answers Job’s complaint and says –

“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out Mazzaroth (lit. Constellations) in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?” – Job 38:31-33

In other words, God has set the constellations in the heavens, and they have dominion over things that happen on earth.

I have written previously about the constellation Virgo and the part Jupiter plays in the Revelation 12 sign as it leaves Virgo on its way to Taurus, where it will meet Mars on August 13, 2024. Remember, the Hebrew name for the constellation Taurus is Shur which means ‘coming to judge’. The Hebrew name for Mars is Ma-Adim which means ‘the red one’ or ‘the Son of Man’. Also in the constellation Taurus is a cluster of stars known as the Pleiades which means ‘the congregation’. The clear meaning of this is “The Son of Man comes to judge with His Congregation, or saints.”

OrionThis Taurus sign will occur August 13, 2024, just a few years from now. But there is another happening in the sky that may also signal the nearness of the coming of the Lord. And it is happening in the constellation Orion. Notice that Orion is just before Taurus, in fact Orion is one of the Deacons of the constellation Taurus. There are only 12 major constellations but each of them has several Deacons or accompanying constellations. Taurus is one of the major constellations and Orion is one of Taurus’ Deacons.

Orion is known as the mighty hunter, holding a mighty club in his right hand and a lion’s skin in his left hand. He wears a brilliant starry girdle to which hangs a mighty sword, the hilt of which is the head and body of a Lamb. His right shoulder is marked by the bright star Betelgeuse, his left shoulder by the star Bellatrix and his uplifted foot by the star Rigel. Betelgeuse means “the Branch coming”, Bellatrix means “Swiftly coming or Suddenly destroying”, and Rigel means “the Foot that crushes”. The three stars, from which hangs a glorious sword are known as the Three Kings and also as Jacob’s Rod. Just as Isaiah wrote –

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. … Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.” – Isa. 11:1-5

Orion Constellation

Orion means “He who comes forth as light, the Brilliant, the Swift.” The Arabs called him Al Giauza (the Branch), Al Mirzam (the Ruler), and Al Nagjed (the Prince). This constellation represents the coming Messiah who is coming swiftly to destroy His enemies.

Astronomers now tell us that Betelgeuse is about to go into a supernova. Orion has been one of the most constant constellations in the sky so, what does this mean that one of it’s brightest stars is about to explode in a supernova? And this just a few years from the Taurus sign happening? And remember, Orion is one of Taurus’ deacons and is just before it in the sky.

It bears watching. Remember the stars were given for signs foretelling the future.

Remember the Wise Men who came to worship the birth of Jesus were following a star. They were watching the constellations and perceived that the King was about to be born. Are there any wise men left today who are watching the stars? And would they tell us that when Orion’s belt is loosed the King is coming?
