The end times prophet Malachi has a word for Israel that can very well be applied to the United States. It has to do with the nation’s education system.

“Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god. The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.” – Malachi 2:11-12 KJV

By teaching concepts of a “strange god” they were dishonoring the holiness of the true God Yahweh. For this reason, God will cut off both teacher and student from “the tabernacles of Jacob”. In other words, they will lose the blessings of God that came only to those having covenant with God.

God had instructed them at Mt. Horeb to remember His word –

“And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.: Deut. 11:19 KJV

“Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.” – Deut. 4:10 KJV

But, over time, they forgot this instruction and had fallen into the condition Jeremiah the prophet accused them of –

“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.” – Jer. 2:13

Jesus also spoke of these “living waters” on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles –

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, ‘If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water’. (But this Spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” – John 7:37-39

Scripture says there is a pure river of life that flows from the throne of God and the Lamb –

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” – Rev. 22:1-2

That river is the pure Word of God and His word is life to all mankind. It is also for the healing of the nations and by His Word the creation was performed, “Then God said . . .”. The Apostle Paul tells us how Jesus is going to purify His Bride, the Church –

“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” – Eph. 5:26-27

America’s education system began with the Word of God. As is written in The Founding from the American Heritage Education Foundation –

“After the Revolutionary War, when the United States acquired new western territory, the Confederation Congress was concerned about immorality and corruption in the new territories and stressed the importance of teaching the Bible, morality, and religion in these regions.  They thus enacted a law that encouraged education for the teaching of religion and morality in schools, known as the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.  This ordinance required all new states to build schools.  Article III of the ordinance stated:

Religion, morality and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.

The Confederation Congress adopted the Northwest Ordinance during the same period that the U. S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and First Amendment were drafted and adopted.  (The ordinance was reapproved in 1789 by the first U. S. Congress under President George Washington.)  Since Congress adopted both this ordinance and the First Amendment, they did not view government encouragement of moral education as a violation of the First Amendment’s No Establishment Clause.  The No Establishment Clause permitted the national government’s encouragement of the teaching of religion and morality in schools.  Indeed, early Americans naturally identified education with the teaching of the Bible and morals, observes A. James Reichley in his Religion in American Public Life, “almost as a matter of course.”

American education began well, being founded on the firm foundation of the Word of God and as a result, God blessed this nation. But now it has fallen into the trap Israel fell into, it has “profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god”. 

And what is that god? It is the god of humanism! Humanism is an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems. In other words, humanism denies God’s value and existence. And it negates His Word as being important in human affairs. It gave rise to the concept of evolution which denies God in the Creation and thus denies the Book of Genisis and denies the concept of sin and thus denies the importance or need of a Savior. It basically substitutes man for God! After the rise of humanism, it was not long before they outlawed the Ten Commandments from education, next came the removal of references to Bible names and concepts, such as Jesus and Easter and Christmas. Instead, education has substituted Critical Race Theory, trans genderism, and homosexuality.

American education used to be tops in the world but now it has fallen to be in the category of third world nations! What Paul wrote to the Romans has come upon us –

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man – “ – Rom. 1:18-23

Because of this God gave them up to their foolishness.

“For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise, also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;” – Rom 1:26-28

Why is education so important, you may ask? It is because we tend to elect our leaders from the education pool. Look what our educational system has recently produced: Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Alexandrea Cortes, Charles Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Elisabeth Warren, Bernard Sanders, and a whole host of unsavory, unbelieving hypocrites! And the colleges that produced them also produced the educators that are running our schools. Is it any wonder why God is rejecting us?

I retired from education 25 years ago. I taught Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics on the college level and even then, I could see the corrosion that was setting in but, it has gotten much worse now. My wife, who also was a teacher, and I home schooled our last two children because of what we saw firsthand in the schools. I would strongly advise parents today to home school or get their children into a Christian based school. There are now excellent home school materials available as well as groups to help you. And I would advise every church that believes in the Word of God to do whatever they can to help and encourage home school groups.

Finally, at 86 years old I cannot fight the battle that needs to be fought to reclaim our educational system, but I can encourage you who are listening what to do. You must pray that God renews your church because God has given the church to be the light and salt of this world. Next, you can elect those leaders who really are Christian, who have a track record of honoring Christ and His Word. Understanding God’s Word is more important than understanding government because the Holy Spirit can teach us the way we should go in any situation and God is an expert at government. As our founding fathers knew –

Religion, morality and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.

Finally get your children into a school atmosphere that honors God and honors His Word!
