This blog is dedicated to the prophetic words of the Bible and God’s servants, the prophets, both ancient and modern. And there is one prophetic word that has always been dear to me, it is the prophesy about the coming of Elijah before the coming of the Lord.
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” – Mal. 4:5, 6
A key part of his ministry will be to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. I remember so well the advice a dear minister friend of mine gave me years ago concerning this. I was a teacher, both secular and of the word of God and my family and I had attended a Family Ministry named Zion Harbor. I was so impressed that I was ready to quit my job, sell my house, and join the ministry. Rev. Bill Lemke was a head preacher there at that time so, I went to him with my offer. After prayer, he told me to stay home and take care of my family; my wife and I had eight children. God later told me that if I raised my family to love Him, I would have done more than 80% of the missionaries of all time. I obeyed and I have been so glad for Bill’s advice and for the word of the Lord gave to me. After I retired from teaching in collage, I did go on to become a minister of the Gospel and was ordained by Rev. Bill Lemke.
When I think of all the great ministries Elijah could have in preparing the people for the coming of the Lord – how amazing that it is to heal families and make them strong in the Lord. After all, Elijah called down fire from heaven. he could be like so many of today’s ministers that broadcast the miracles God does in their ministries to draw great crowds! Then I remembered how God moved in the Old Testament – through families! He called Abraham and made him a family.
“For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”– Gen. 18:19
The same with Isaac. The same with Jacob and from his eight children God made a nation. He promised Abraham –
“And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;” – Gen. 26:4
And it was so – Jacob became Israel and out of the nation of Israel, Jesus was born and became a blessing to all nations.
How wonderful is a family. It was to the family of Zacharias and Elisabeth that John the Baptist was born, and Scriptures say of him –
“He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” – Luke 1:17
We need more men to go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah. The enemy has tried to destroy the family by stealing from men their heritage, a heritage of preparing their children to meet the Lord. The politicians have been his tools by doling out welfare and government assistance to replace the father. The bars and drug lords have also done their part to blind the men to their true calling with alcoholism and addiction. Hollywood also has done its part by glorifying immoral sex and adultery. And yes, the churches also have done their part by failing to teach men their responsibilities and condoning divorce.
“But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore, take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.” – Malachi 2:15
God gives to a marriage the “remnant of the Spirit” to be able to produce new life! God has called you men to be the carriers of seed (sperm) and you women to produce the egg from which He can bring forth new life. And you will never know greater fulfillment in life than to care for your children, teaching them the ways of the Lord. You also will never know more of the joy of the Lord than when you see your children walking with the Lord and arguing with their enemies (those who are following Satan) in the gates of the Lord.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” – Ps. 127:3-5
As I witness the abundant signs of the Lord’s return, both heavenly and earthly, I long to see the Elijahs of the day come forth; to see the love and care only a father can give to his family and to see the honor and respect of the children for their fathers, honor and respect which only comes from love that has been experienced. As I witness the damage feminism and the spirit of Jezebel has wreaked on women that they will never know the joys of motherhood or the lies the devil feeds to men who dominate them instead of loving them as Jesus loved His Church, I long for the spirit of Elijah to come and restore God’s intent for the marriage and the family once again.
If you are a father reading this, God bless you in your God-given ministry to your family. If you are a mother reading this God bless you in your ministry of nurturing and raising your family for the Lord. One day He will greatly reward you for your labor of love.
“They shall be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” Then you shall again discern Between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God And one who does not serve Him.” – Malachi 3:17-18
