In my last article, Which King will You Choose?, I tried to illustrate the truth that the people cannot gain heaven’s blessings by choosing leaders that only look good or sound good or even that agree with what you think. If they do, they inevitably get a King Saul. They must choose leaders whose hearts are after God – like King David. But, there is another truth in this process that is seldom referred to – and that is the people always get the leaders they deserve! If Americans reject God and His laws they cannot expect God to give them righteous leaders. If God does happen to give them righteous leaders they will only reject them, or worse. Continue reading
As the United States is laboring under the selection of a new President it would be well to remember some Bible history – the story of King Saul.
“Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?” – 1 Samuel 10:1
“And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.” 1 Samuel 10:24
Saul was outstanding among the people and God even chose him to be king. God even anointed him with His Spirit –
“And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.” – 1 Samuel 10:6
Though Saul genuinely tried to live up to the high-calling he received, we know he failed but the question is why?
“And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.” – 1 Samuel 13:13,14
If you read the whole story, you will see that in a moment of stress Saul took things in his own hands –
“And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.” – 1 Samuel 13:9
He was supposed to wait for Samuel to make the offerings to God because God had given Samuel alone this authority but, in a moment of great stress, he relied on religion rather than on God’s word and it cost him the kingdom. Just like the people had done in appointing a king in the first place so Saul did – he trusted in the “arm of flesh” rather than in God!
Saul had made a good start with the Lord. The Lord had even made him into “another man”. – we would call that today a born-again experience but, it was not enough. The word of God says we must go on –
“Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God “ – Hebrews 6:1
“For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end“ – Hebrews 3:14
The people also failed to trust God and they looked to the world for wisdom instead of to God. They wanted a king like the other nations instead of God.
“And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.” – 1 Samuel 10:19
God gave them the desires of their heart and they ultimately paid a high price for it – they lost their liberty as well as the fullness of God’s blessings. God would continue working with them, but the cost was great.
Now, how does this story apply to us in these days? Much in every way. Many are looking to some political figure to solve all our problems when it is God alone who can save us. As our first President declared, it was the “smiles of heaven” that brought this nation forth and He alone can meet our every need.
But, if we continue on our politically correct rejection of God’s laws of conduct, even denying His existence or His right to impose His rules of conduct upon us, we will condemn ourselves and our country to an existence without His blessings. If you think Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, or any other leader, can lead us into the “promised land”, so to speak, without God’s divine help, you are a fool who deserves what you are going to reap.
In the United States, our vote is precious, and we should not give it without considering the lesson of Saul. We should want someone who exhibits the characteristics of a king David rather than a king Saul –
“as My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes” – 1 Kings 14:8
If the political parties will not give us such a candidate – then we should look for a party that will!
I have been posting about the 2014-2015 Blood Red Moon Tetrad and the eclipses it contains, but there is another important sign hidden within them that gives grave news for the world. It is the mystery of the number seven. From the beginning of creation the number seven has played an important role –
- God created the heavens and the earth in six days but on the seventh – He rested.
- Man was commanded to follow the same pattern and set aside the seventh day as a Sabbath – ” Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” – Exodus 20:8
- Not only was the seventh day a Sabbath but seven Sabbaths was a special Sabbath and the next day (50th day) was a celebration of harvest.- Leviticus 23:16
- Every seven years was also a special time, called the shemittah in which there was to be a time of release from financial debt. – Deuteronomy 15:1
- Every seven shemitahs was to begin a year of Jubilee – a time of great release and rest, debts forgiven, land that was lost was to be returned, those who had been enslaved were to be set free, and the land and vineyards were also to be given rest.
- Judgments also came in groups of seven – Pharaohs dream of seven lean cows, and the Babylonian captivity of Judah for 70 years because they did not honor God by keeping the shemitahs commanded and fell away from God. – Jeremiah 29:10
- Antichrist will rule the earth for seven years. – Daniel 9:27
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16
The salt Jesus is talking about is that preservative that fights corruption – the corruption of sin. And the light He is talking about is that God given exposure to the truth as God defines it. It alone can drive away darkness. Mystery Babylon cannot stand either. Her spirit thrives in darkness and she is full of corruption. If we would follow Jesus Continue reading
As we consider Mystery Babylon we must remember that we are drawing close to the end of the age. The Blood Red Moons of 2014 and 2015, the Shemitah (Sabbath) year of 2015, and the Jubilee year of 2016 all signal its nearness to those who are watching. As the end of the age approaches, we should expect wickedness to increase but also righteousness to increase. The message of Revelation 22:11 is going forth –
“He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.” Continue reading
Islamic terrorism is not ‘contained’ , it is spreading and intensifying. Recent events are verifying the truth of this, so why do Americans have such a hard time understanding this? I want to suggest a radical answer – we in the West have forsaken the God of the Bible! As the prophet Jeremiah wrote about Israel, we too have “forsaken God the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”
As I listen to all the news and proclamations concerning the Paris attack of the Islamic State, I am saddened by the lack of understanding exhibited by those speaking. Our President and his administration seem unwilling to even mention the name Islam in connection with the problem when ISIS or ISIL clearly state they are acting in obedience to the Koran and call themselves the true Islam. Hillary Clinton, the often acknowledged front-runner of the Democratic presidential race, even declared “We are not at war with ISIS!”. We are witnessing stupidity glorified by political correctness among our leaders.
The so-called peace loving adherents to Islam, who claim to be the majority, also are become suspiciously silent in publicly condemning those who are supposedly corrupting their religion. The facts are that Islam has always been a political-religious system that believes in ascendancy. The only times they have been “peaceful” are when they have subjugated everyone else in the neighborhood or they have been too weak to exert their goals of dominance. That includes those who are of a different denomination within Islam, such as Sunni or Shea. Even when they are at “peace” they denigrate all others under their control to a second-class subsistence. This is their historical record. Why can so many in the United States not understand what is so clearly evident?
I believe the prophet Jeremiah has the answer for us.
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. – Jeremiah 2:13
America was founded upon Christian foundational principles, as all our founding Fathers and documents declare. We were Christian nation and our Common Law was based on Biblical principles. We allowed “strangers” in the land but we did not allow them to dictate our culture – there was no Sharia Law for example! But, we have forsaken our founding principles which were like living water to us and instead have hewed out new cisterns which are broken. They may be “politically correct” but they can hold no water!
If Americans do not return to their founding belief in God and trust in the saving grace of Jesus Christ, nothing else will deliver us from this present trouble. The Bible’s King David declares the answer to ISIS –
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. – Psalm 20:7
If we do not head this advice, we will experience more of what France recently did.
