Behold, the Darkness and the Light

As I look at the landscape that surrounds me, both political and religious, all I see is darkness, deep darkness. It is as Isaiah prophesied so long ago –

Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. Mist over the Valley

David was a man that trusted in the Lord. He was a shepherd and he knew the Lord as his Shepherd. He was a man acquainted with hardship and danger but he knew how to be at peace in the care of the Lord. His 23rd Psalm declares this –

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.” – Ps. 23:1-6
