Mystery Babylon is hard to identify, after all, she is called mystery by John. She is full of deception just like her master, Satan. She likes the trappings of religion, the pomp and ceremony. Her liturgies can be reassuring to her members lulling them into a false sense of security. She promises redemption without the embracing of the cross – seldom if ever teaching that Jesus said, “If you will be My disciples, take up your cross and follow Me.”
John alludes to this false church in 1st John 2:18 calling them Antichrists. He says “they went out from us, but they were not of us”. In other words, they were part of the church masquerading as believers. He links them to the Antichrist who will come. They are of the same spirit. That is a serious thing to say. It makes what Paul writes about the coming of the lawless one (Antichrist) all the more crucial. He will come “according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10. I am sick of the liberal social engineers who think they know better than God.They always seem to yell the loudest, as if sheer volume can overcome their lack of reason. They flout the phrase “racism” as a battle flag and a reason for very problem they have, but I have a different solution. Turn back to the God of the Bible! 
There have always been those who set themselves above everyone else and even above God. They believe they can interpret what God has said better than even God. If God doesn’t move according to their understanding or standards, they feel free to reinterpret what must be true. They free to make a golden calf, thus redefining God’s intentions. Sometimes this is based on fear of the future, or genuine misunderstanding, but most often it is based upon hatred and rejection of God and His stated plans. There are plenty golden calf followers with us today. One of the most vocal today is Kurt Eichenwald of Newsweek magazine. In an article titled 
tion Jesus dictates letters to 7 churches. In each of the letters He declares, “I know your works.” Much of the modern day church seems to have forgotten this fact! By all accounts there is little difference between church members and the world. One fast growing church in the area I live prides itself on its growth and number of services each Sunday. But the Pastor tells new staff “I hope I don’t shock you if I swear once in a while.” Or at church men’s retreats, he tells the men they can bring their cigars and beer. I guess they really are retreats – retreats right into the world! At another fast growing church in our area worship leaders and staff are let go if they don’t project the right look of ‘charisma’. They are a TV generation and the right outward look is everything.
