In my last post I concentrated on earthquakes and pestilences. In this post I want to cover the famines Jesus predicted would happen.
“And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.” – Luke 21:11
Jesus gives graphic signs of the approaching end, call them signposts. They involved natural disasters, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, floods,droughts and earthquakes, increased deceptions and wars and rumors of wars. Now the world has always had these disasters but, Jesus is talking about their increasing magnitude and frequency – He said they would be like birth pangs. If you don’t know what they are, ask a woman who has born children.
As we continue identifying signs of the Lord’s soon return, newspaper and government reports will be reviewed. Some have been so frequent as to engender a complacency much like the boy who cried wolf to often.
12. Jesus Himself warned there would be an increase in famines (Matthew 24:7). According to the World Food Programme, “hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria & tuberculosis combined.” Some 805 million people do not have enough food to lead healthy lives.
