Pentecost – the Latter Rain

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, which actually occurs May 29-30th this year. But, what is so special about Pentecost? Last year I posted about it and I will include some of it here.

The Fire of God

To all the ‘low energy’ Christians out there, I challenge you to be filled with the ‘fire of God’. Those few who received the ‘former rain’ of the Holy Spirit were filled with the zeal of God so too should those who receive the ‘latter rain’ of the Holy Spirit be filled with holy zeal for God’s word.

I love the 3:16’s in the Bible and the one that most people have heard of is in the Book of John, the beloved disciple –

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

The Lateness of the Hour

latter rainGod is the Creator. He set things in motion in the beginning but, what has a beginning also has an end. Every birth also has a death assigned to it and so it is with man’s time on earth. The Hebrew prophet Hosea predicted this –

“Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.” – Hosea 6:1-3
