Our first President, George Washington, is quoted as saying, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert great pillars of human happiness.” By religion he meant Christianity and its tenants. In it’s history, America has had several revivals of that sentiment in which it turned back to God and His words. But, that is not the current case as the entertainment industry, epitomized by Hollywood, has become the Antichrist’s immorality voice of the world. And our current government encourages them by eliminating God from public view. Democrats have dropped the phrase ‘So help me God’ from the testimony sworn by witnesses before Congressional hearings, Democrat Jerry Nadler remarking “God’s Will is No Concern of This Congress”, to passing the Equality Bill which elevates homosexuals and Lesbians and transgenderism to protected status.

These are just a few of the attacks currently going on against the Christian faith in government. The military, under leadership placed by late President Obama, is purging those with extremist views from the military, and by extremist views they include Evangelical Christianity. How have we reached such a condition in the United States, the land of Liberty? The main reason is because the Christian Church has failed to be the Light Jesus commanded it to be.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” – Matt. 5:11

And He also said –

“For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” – John 3:20, 21

Large portions of the church have been practicing evil and so doesn’t want to come to the Light! It has allowed abortion and homosexuality to feel comfortable in church. It has been to busy becoming ‘seeker friendly’, preaching a “I’m OK, You’re OK” doctrine instead of the Word of God, and all for increased numbers and increased money. Or it has simply taught manmade church doctrine instead of the truth of the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus taught which states that you must live righteously. It ordained female pastors which allowed the spirit of Jezebel to get into the church just as the Church of Thyatira did. And most importantly, it was silent at the wickedness being displayed in society and government. It stood by and let them take down the Ten Commandments and take prayer out of the schools. And it allowed it’s members to vote for those politicians who were doing these wicked things without saying a word.

Jesus predicted there would be famines in the last days, and so there are, but the worst famine is a famine of the word of God! The prophet Amos predicted this in the last days –

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.” – Amos 8:11

Is all hopeless? After all, David wrote in Psalms, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Ps. 11:3). Well, Hosea has the answer –

“Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” – Hosea 10:12

And –

“Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.” – Hosea 67:1-3

Remember what the Apostle Peter said, “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3:8). So Hosea is saying after 2000 years He will raise us up! He will come to us like the former and latter rain. These are the days of the prophesied latter rain! The prophet Zechariah said –

“Ask the LORD for rain In the time of the latter rain. The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.” – Zech. 10:1

No, not all is hopeless if we do what Hosea says and “pursue the knowledge of the LORD” and return the Him. Seek the Lord and cry out to Him for rain, the latter rain. If the Church repents and removes the bushel basket off it’s light and begins to be salt for society once again, we can recover with the Lord’s help. The story of Gideon is our pattern, if we break the pitchers, let the torches shine, and blow the shofars, the Midianites will flee!
