The United States, indeed the whole world, is suffering under the Covid19 virus and the resulting lockdowns that it generated. While many secular businesses closed, I believe the main thrust was against the Church. Those in control of government and the health industry certainly aimed their repression against the Church. Many churches are still shut down and many calling themselves Christian are yet walking in fear, wearing a mask to hide from the virus instead of trusting in the Lord. This is especially troublesome in a country such as ours that was founded on Biblical principles and in which the Church and faith in Jesus has played such a supporting role, as John Adams, our second President, so eloquently stated.
“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
Holy Scriptures command –
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Heb. 10:24, 25
While many blame the virus on China or on Dr. Fauci, and they may indeed have been the vehicles used, it would be well to remember that God allowed it to happen and He has certainly used it to do His work. John the Baptist warned –
“And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” – Matt. 3:10
The “trees” are representing those claiming to be believers, or in our day, the Church. And the Apostle Peter further expands on this thought –
“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Remember, a few days before Jesus went to the Cross, He entered the Temple and drove out the money changers and those who sold animals, cleansing the Temple and saying “It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” Now, shortly before His second coming, I believe He is once again cleansing His Temple, which is the church. When the Lord returns, He is coming for a Bride who is without spot or blemish. As John said, the ax is laid to the root of all the trees but those trees that were not bearing fruit were cast into the fire. Those that were bearing some fruit, were pruned so they would bear more fruit. Those churches that were not bearing fruit will have a sign placed on the door – “Ichabod” for the glory has departed! They were too concerned with man’s traditions and were Christian in name only but had denied the power. What they had was religion but they were cold and lukewarm not allowing the fire of the Holy Spirit and it’s giftings to freely move.
To those churches that are being pruned, the latter rain is about to fall and they will bear much fruit. They will allow the Holy Spirit to freely move and the gifts of the Holy Spirit will be evident among them. Remember one of the works of the Holy Spirit is to make the Word of God precious once again and He will illuminate it and reveal it’s meaning. He will make real the blessings of God and the severity of God. He will make real once again the Fear of the LORD. And He will reveal the meanings of the Feasts of the Lord and the meanings of the harvests contained in them. The great harvest feasts of the Lord are about to happen: the Barley harvest of the First Fruits; the Wheat harvest of Pentecost; and the fruit harvest of Tabernacles. I believe the Barley harvest has already begun and the Wheat harvest is soon to begin, except the harvests won’t be Barley and Wheat but souls of the lost brought into the kingdom.
But, when the judgment at the house of God is finished, it will begin on the world! Many Christians are praying for the judgment to fall on the world but they want to skip it on the house of God, but God is not going to change His plan – the house of God first then the world. He is most concerned with His House because they will become His Bride. Then the world will be given a final chance to respond to His call to repent and accept Jesus as Savior or face the fires of hell.
Peter concludes –
“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” – 1 Pet 4:12, 13
Rejoice, for I believe the glory of God is about to be revealed.
