I have been writing about the Feast of Passover recently because it is soon to come on March 27-28. Passover is the beginning of God’s plan to save us as we apply the blood of the Lamb to our the door posts of our heart. But, it represents much more as it symbolizes our deliverance from the bondage of slavery as well. Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin“ (John 8:34). What bondage are you under? In that first Passover, as the Hebrew children left Egypt, they were heading toward the Promised Land where God had promised them –

“And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, ‘then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.” – Deut. 11:13, 14

And as long as they followed God’s commandments they were prosperous receiving both the early and the latter rain for their harvests. God also gave them 7 Feasts to remember His promises: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles each of which reminded them of God’s Plan of Redemption. Three of these Feasts were harvest feasts: First Fruits marked the Barley harvest, Pentecost marked the Wheat harvest, and Tabernacles marked the Fruit harvest. The former rains came during the Barley and Wheat harvest and the latter rain came before the final Fruit harvest. These Feast days were also very prophetic in nature predicting the comings of the Christ both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. The final harvest is on display in the final book of the Bible, Revelations. They show the way to live in God’s will for mankind. God spoke about these ‘rains’ of His Holy Spirit through His prophet Joel –

“Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He has given you the former rain faithfully (Strong’s moderately), and He will cause the rain to come down for you—The former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.” – Joel 2:23

Now God had already told Moses and Aaron that the ‘first month’ was to be the month of Nisan, the month in which they left the bondage of Egypt –

“Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, “This month (Nisan) shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.” – Exo. 12:1, 2

The first Passover was held on the 14th of this first month. This is the month that the latter rain will begin. And we are to be praying for it just as those first Passover participants were praying for their deliverance from bondage of slavery. The prophet Zechariah tells us –

“Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.” – Zech. 10:1

As you celebrate Passover this year, pray for the latter rain to begin, in fact it may have already begun as the following video shows –

And this outpouring of the latter rain is beginning in California, a place of wickedness and bondage not unlike Egypt must have been for the Hebrews. But, it is going to spread throughout the nation and the world. It is preparing us for the final harvest when Jesus returns to gather His Bride and judge the world.

So let each one of us prepare our hearts to be filled with the Holy Spirit and be a part of this final revival.
