Yellowstone and New Madrid Quake Zones 

God has used earthquakes in the past to speak to man and shake him out of his waywardness as well as purifying his walk and trust in the Almighty. And He will use them in the future as well. In the United States there are two mega earthquakes that are thought to be candidates for eminent shaking, the Yellowstone caldera and the New Madrid fault. Plus there are numerous earthquake faults in California as well. The Yellowstone earthquake would wipe out most of the western United States and the New Madrid fault could divide the United States in two. Earthquakes are one of the ways God gets the attention of a wayward world.

“And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.” – Rev. 8:5

Earthquakes in the oceans can cause tsunamis and there are also violent storms at sea and flooding that can turn one’s world upside down in a moment. The United States is still recovering from recent hurricanes and the resulting flooding. California is discovering the devastation of wildfires and many have lost everything they held dear. 2 years ago, my wife and I awoke to a house fire that took our home so, we have experienced the feelings that these losses can bring. They make you examine what is important in your life.

Then there are other kinds of losses that make you take stock of what your life consists of; material things, worldly relationships, or God? It may seem hard of God to make us go through these testings but, if the result is a stronger, more lasting relationship with Him for all time, then they are worth it. If God loves us, and He does, then He must shake everything we are trusting in more than Him.

That is why I believe God will soon shake the financial realm of the world. Money and wealth have become a false god for many nations. Their laws are proof that money and wealth are much more important than morality and God’s laws. Political correctness is just a thinly disguised veneer to allow disregard of God’s laws. But, all the really big sins have to do with money, don’t touch a nation’s taxation or you are in BIG trouble! Almost any kind of wickedness is accepted as long as it makes money for the perpetrators. Unlike many modern prognosticators I am not going to give a formula for how to escape the coming financial storm other than the one God Himself gives –

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” – Prov. 18:10

This is not a ‘foxhole’ type of safety because only the righteous can make use of it. They have not forsaken the Lord therefore He will not forsake them in the time of trouble. The Philadelphia Church of Revelation is the example to follow –

“for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. … Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” – Rev. 3:8-10

The Philadelphia Church was not big or powerful but, they were faithful. It doesn’t mean they will have no trouble, only that God will be with them in it and deliver them out of it. God’s promise for His people during shaking is found in the book of Isaiah –

“Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” – Isa. 43:1,2

We all face trouble and we will surely face more. Those who place their trust in the Lord will be delivered as long as they do what the Apostle Paul told the Ephesians –

“Put on the full armor of the Lord and … Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” – Eph. 6:18.

Remember, you may have to persevere in prayer to see your answers. Also, it is in the face of trouble that true worship comes forth and that brings the very presence of God into you situation.
